What is it that keeps you coming back to the golf course?

Is it the thrill of landing the ball close to the hole on a par-3 and having the pleasure of knowing you’re safely on your way to a birdie putt? Is it cracking off a tremendous drive that sails straight down a narrow fairway? Or, maybe it's holing a long putt after struggling with your flatstick all day?

Golf is full of fist-pump-worthy moments that make us turn and high five our playing partners, and there’s no better time than the start of a new year to make some plans for how we’d like to play for the season ahead…

Where do you want to be come the Spring?

It may seem like a long way off given that we’ve only just celebrated New Year’s Day, but how many times have you caught yourself when playing golf in winter thinking ‘I can’t wait for Spring when the weather’s nicer’.

The last thing you really want is to wait for Spring to arrive to get your clubs out, only to realise your game has got a little rusty over the winter. Why not make the most of the time you have now and get your game together to head into the fairer seasons in great form?

The best way to ensure that you’re in good form ahead of the season is to set yourself some realistic targets of how you can hope to improve your golf over the next few months.

Have a think about your own game, is there a particular aspect of your golf that you feel you regularly struggle with? Perhaps you have a bit of a fade (or slice) in your drives that you’d like to straighten out, or you’d like to feel more control over your wedge shots when pitching onto the green.

As we all know, practice is key to getting better, and just think how good it will feel when you’re at that stage of the hole with a tricky shot you’ve been practicing for. Instead of groaning and putting yourself into a negative mindset, you’ll have all your recent practice to channel into your shot and come away with a smile on your face.
